"Proclaim the Word!" - Part IV in a series
By Dr. John C. Whitcomb
The apostle Peter had learned during his three years with the Lord Jesus Christ, and during the early years of the church, that without the Lord he could do nothing to help people (cf. John 15:5). Furthermore, he could now say with the apostle Paul: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13).
That is our constant and desperate need today. Surrounded on every side with theological and spiritual perversion and apostasy, it is "natural" to want to lash out at those who are destroying the very foundations of our lives, our families, our schools, our communities and our nation.
Yes, God commands us, through Peter, to "be ready always to give an answer [apologian = an answer back, an apologetic] to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15). But it is absolutely essential to observe the immediate context of this command.
Before we open our mouth to "give an answer," we are to "sanctify the Lord God in (our) hearts." And note carefully how this defense is to be made: "with meekness and fear" (3:15). Thus, it is not ultimately our intellectual skills that make the difference in our witness for Christ. To be sure, God does not put a premium on ignorance. "Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds" (Acts 7:22). Thus, under the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21), he could write the first five books of the Bible.
Paul (i.e., Saul of Tarsus) was likewise academically brilliant. Among his teachers in Jerusalem was the renowned scholar Gamaliel (Acts 22:3; cf. 5:24). Thus, again under the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:15-16), he was able to write 13 letters in the New Testament.
But the writings of Moses and Paul were "quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword" (Hebrews 4:12) because they sanctified the Lord in their hearts before they wrote, and because they wrote "with meekness and fear."
Moses failed miserably when he attempted to help his people by killing an Egyptian (Exodus 2:11-15). What he needed, to be effective for God, was an advanced degree in humility – achieved by the end of 40 years in Midian tending the flocks of his father-in-law (Exodus 2:23- 3:1). When God then commissioned him to lead his people out of Egypt, he exclaimed: "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since Thou hast spoken unto Thy servant . . . for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue" (Exodus 4:10).
What a change had taken place! In fact, though he had every human reason to be proud, following the exodus, we read: "The man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth" (Numbers 12:3).

Dr. Whitcomb forms partnership with AiG
Whitcomb Ministries is excited to announce that Dr. John Whitcomb is now representing Answers in Genesis as a creation speaker. You will notice that events scheduled through this partnership are included in his itinerary above.
While Dr. Whitcomb's work as president of Whitcomb Ministries will continue without interruption, this relationship with AiG will open up even more doors of opportunity, and will increase the possibility that you may be able to hear him speak at a location near you.
The following announcement from AiG is reprinted with permission from the Answers Update (Vol. 13, Issue 3). Please note that it was written before the passing of Dr. Henry Morris on Feb. 25, 2006.
Classic talks by a classic author
The modern creation movement—now growing steadily across the nation—had its Genesis in the early '60s in a somewhat surprising fashion.
It was not launched at a major rally or by a controversy in the courts or schools—nothing splashy whatsoever. In fact, the event was not even associated with the first chapter of Genesis.
The movement's trigger was the publication of a book: The Genesis Flood by Drs. John Whitcomb and Henry Morris. These men are recognized as giants in the battle for biblical inerrancy.
Both men are in their 80s, yet remain active in the creation movement in their own ways. Dr. Morris continues to write and Dr. Whitcomb still has a busy and impacting speaking ministry. With this issue of Answers Update, we are pleased to announce Dr. Whitcomb's availability to speak on behalf of AiG.
By the way, Dr. Whitcomb is an excellent and gracious presenter. In fact, he received a standing ovation when he finished his presentation on the Genesis Flood at AiG's Mega Conference last summer.
Dr. Whitcomb can give a variety of non-technical talks on creation and the Flood. He will bless your church (or churches—think about finding a few Bible-believing churches to band together and promote a regional meeting in an adequate-sized facility to host this "giant of the faith").
To start the process of booking what Ken Ham calls a "great warrior of the Christian faith who is also a superb communicator," call Steven Fazekas at ext. 438 (859-727-2222), or go to our easy-to-use webpage, www.AnswersInGenesis.org/RequestEvent. You won't be disappointed!
Busy days for Whitcomb Ministries
We apologize for the lateness of this issue of the Monthly Monograph. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes at Whitcomb Ministries of late – so much, in fact, that we can't get it all in this newsletter.
Suffice it to say, it is all good news, and we believe that you will enjoy reading about it in our special June edition, which you will be receiving in just a few days. It will be jammed full with interesting developments about our ministry that you will not want to miss – including several more major announcements.
This current issue of the Monograph marks the end of the first full year for this new electronic newsletter. We trust you have enjoyed and benefited from it, and we look forward to the ways in which God will use it in the days ahead.
By way, did you know that we now have nearly 1,000 subscribers to the Monograph? Please encourage your friends to sign up as well – we would love to have the opportunity to minister the Word of God to them by this means.
Help us promote the Third Annual Day with Whitcomb Ministries
As Whitcomb Ministries busily prepares to host another major Bible conference for the Greater Milwaukee Area – again in cooperation with Answers in Genesis – the time is fast approaching when we will be seeking opportunities to promote this conference throughout Southern Wisconsin.
The Third Annual Day with Whitcomb Ministries will be held on Saturday, November 11, with guest keynote speaker Carl Kerby. Our theme will be, "A Young Earth: The Christian's Absolute Beginning."
Those who are interested in scheduling a promotion for their church, Christian school chapel, home school group, or other organization may call Paul Scharf, ministry assistant, at 920-623-0257, or e-mail conference@whitcombministries.org.
Paul would be happy to come and give your group a multi-media presentation about this special conference and the importance of the creation message. He is available to do pulpit supply as well, and would be glad to meet the needs of your group as best as he can.
Brochures for this conference will be available soon, and many more details will be given in the June issue of the Monograph. Please do not hesitate to call if we may assist you.
Have a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend!
